Mirwil is situated on the edge of the village of Leigh, just 3 miles from the Cotswold Water Park, a beautiful lakeland setting which has something for everyone, including nearly every type of watersport, some great cycle routes and footpaths, a bathing beach, shop, café, BBQs and childrens' play area. This is also an ideal place for birdwatching and fishing.

Local activities include horseriding, fishing and cycling and there are Golf courses at Wootton Bassett and Oaksey. Approximately 3 miles away, Cricklade is a good place for a spot of gift shopping and there is also a small museum there. Even closer, at 2 miles away, Ashton Keynes (source of the river Thames) has a local shop, post office and some great pubs serving food.

Just 6 miles away is the ancient and beautiful town of Malmesbury, once a great seat of learning and home to Elmer the 11th century flying monk who made the first recorded attempt at manned flight (200 metres) from the top of the Abbey. He broke both legs, needless to say! Malmesbury also boasts the stunning Abbey House Gardens which are definitely worth a visit and not forgetting the Abbey itself, resting place of King Athelstan, the first king of all England.

Slightly further afield, Why not visit Cirencester (11 miles), home of one of the most famous Roman settlements, still boasting a Roman amphitheatre. There are several museums including the Corinium Museum, together with antique shops, and of course many restaurants and pubs! Also worth a Visit, Bibury Trout Farm (north of Cirencester), a pretty place where you can catch your own trout for lunch!

At nearby Tetbury, (home to royalty) you may glimpse Prince Charles. Failing that, Tetbury is world famous for antique shopping. For more comprehensive shopping, Swindon (8 miles) is a shopper's paradise with it's Great Western Designer Outlet Village. It is also home to the Great Western Railway Museum, whilst Fairford (12 miles) is home to the International Air Tattoo.

There are many historical places to visit; Grand Old Houses, Parks, Manors, Abbeys and even Castles, with National Heritage Sites, such as Stonehenge, Avebury and Silbury Hill all within easy travelling distance.

The area is also famous for the Badminton and Gatcombe International Horse Trials and just a short drive away are Longleat Safari Park and the town of Cheltenham.
